About

Daniel “Dennis” Parnell, M.A.R., M.A., L.M.H.C.

Hi, I’m Dennis Parnell.

I facilitate the spiritual, mental and emotional healing process through talk therapy. The focus of most of my adult life has been to be a skilled helper to people in need. As I moved through my theological training, I realized that, often, others needed deeper support than "church" alone could give. I pursued further education to become a clinical counselor to meet those needs.

Many of the mental health issues that I treat are issues that I have had to work through in my own personal journey. I know what worked for me and I know that recovery and growth is doable. I did not learn all I know from textbooks. I think of myself, using Carl Jung’s term, as a “Wounded Healer”.

I use a cognitive behavioral therapy approach. I am insight oriented. I am also systemic in my approach. I refer to the Scriptures often, during sessions, when appropriate. I believe most problems in functioning develop in the context of unhealthy relationships. Healing will take place in the context of safe relationships, including therapy.

I have been a mental health counselor since I finished my masters degree in counseling, at Liberty University, 1/24/1994. I have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor since 2007. I am now licensed in Florida [07’] and Indiana. [21’]

I started my counseling career in community mental health. I have also worked in drug rehabs, psychiatric hospitals, detoxes, Florida DJJ as a sex offender therapist. I have also worked in the Florida DOC as a Mental Health Professional. I have also worked with the chronically mentally Ill at a day program. Over the past four years I have done mental health counseling using teletherapy sessions exclusively.
